Mayo Revolution
The Mayo Revolution refers to a series of events that took place in May 1810 in Buenos Aires, part of present-day Argentina. It marked the beginning of the struggle for independence from Spanish colonial rule. The revolution was sparked by the weakening of Spanish authority due to the Napoleonic Wars in Europe, leading local leaders to seek self-governance.
On May 25, 1810, a group of patriots formed the first local government, known as the First Junta. This event is celebrated annually in Argentina as a national holiday, symbolizing the start of the country's journey towards independence, which was officially achieved in 1816.
