Gomez was a key figure in organizing and leading troops during the wars, particularly in the Ten Years' War and the Cuban War of Independence. He worked closely with other leaders, including José Martí, to promote Cuban sovereignty. After the successful conclusion of the war in 1898, Gomez continued to advocate for Cuban independence and reform until his death on June 17, 1905.
