Matthias of Jerusalem
Matthias of Jerusalem is recognized as one of the twelve apostles in Christian tradition. He was chosen to replace Judas Iscariot after Judas betrayed Jesus Christ and subsequently died. Matthias was selected by casting lots among the disciples, highlighting the importance of divine guidance in their decision-making.
Traditionally, Matthias is believed to have preached the Gospel in various regions, including Judea and Ethiopia. His martyrdom is commemorated on February 24 in the Western Christian calendar. Although not much is known about his life, Matthias is honored for his commitment to spreading the teachings of Jesus after the resurrection.
