Matriarchal Society
A matriarchal society is a social system in which women, particularly mothers, hold primary power and authority. In these societies, lineage and inheritance are often traced through the female line, and women may occupy key roles in leadership, decision-making, and family structure. This contrasts with patriarchal societies, where men typically hold the dominant positions.
In a matriarchal society, cultural practices and norms may emphasize cooperation, nurturing, and community well-being. Examples of matriarchal societies can be found among certain Indigenous groups, such as the Iroquois in North America, where women play significant roles in governance and social organization.
