Mary Jones (Welsh)
Mary Jones was a notable figure in Welsh history, best known for her dedication to the Welsh language and culture. Born in 1784 in Llanfihangel-y-Pennant, she became famous for her efforts to promote the use of Welsh during a time when English was becoming more dominant in Wales.
At the age of 15, Mary walked 26 miles to obtain a copy of the Bible in Welsh, which significantly impacted the Welsh-speaking community. Her journey inspired the creation of the Mary Jones World project, which aims to celebrate and preserve the Welsh language and heritage.
