Marken houses
Marken houses are traditional wooden homes found on the island of Marken in the IJsselmeer lake in the Netherlands. These houses are built on stilts to protect them from flooding, as the area is below sea level. Their distinctive green and white colors, along with steep roofs, reflect the local architectural style.
The construction of Marken houses dates back to the 18th and 19th centuries, showcasing the region's maritime heritage. Many of these homes are now preserved as part of the Marken village, attracting tourists who come to admire their unique charm and learn about the island's history.
