Maritime Labor Convention
The Maritime Labor Convention (MLC) is an international treaty established by the International Labour Organization (ILO) to ensure decent working and living conditions for seafarers. Adopted in 2006, it sets minimum standards for various aspects of maritime labor, including wages, working hours, and health and safety.
The MLC aims to protect the rights of seafarers and promote fair competition among shipping companies. It covers issues such as employment contracts, access to medical care, and the right to join trade unions, ensuring that seafarers are treated fairly and with dignity while working at sea.
