Maria Bouboulina
Maria Bouboulina was a Greek naval commander and a prominent figure in the Greek War of Independence against Ottoman rule in the early 19th century. Born in 1771 on the island of Spetses, she came from a family with a strong maritime background. Bouboulina played a crucial role in organizing naval operations and was known for her bravery and leadership.
She is celebrated as one of the first female naval commanders in history. Bouboulina's most notable achievement was her involvement in the successful siege of Tripolitsa, a key stronghold of the Ottomans. Her contributions to the independence movement have made her a national heroine in Greece.
