Marcus Clarke
Marcus Clarke was an Australian writer and journalist, best known for his novel For the Term of His Natural Life. Born in 1846 in London, he moved to Australia in 1852. Clarke's work often explored themes of crime, punishment, and the harsh realities of life in the Australian penal system.
In addition to his fiction, Clarke contributed to various literary magazines and was involved in the Melbourne literary scene. He faced personal struggles, including financial difficulties and health issues, which ultimately led to his early death in 1881 at the age of 35. His legacy continues to influence Australian literature.
