Mangalyaan, officially known as the Mars Orbiter Mission, is India's first interplanetary mission, launched by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) on November 5, 2013. Its primary objective was to explore the surface of Mars, study its atmosphere, and demonstrate the technology needed for future interplanetary missions.
The spacecraft successfully entered Mars' orbit on September 24, 2014, making India the first Asian nation to reach Mars and the fourth space agency globally to do so. Mangalyaan has provided valuable data about the Martian surface, mineral composition, and atmospheric conditions, contributing significantly to our understanding of the planet.
