Manda (Hindu Mythology)
In Hindu mythology, Manda is a significant figure associated with the churning of the ocean, known as Samudra Manthan. He is depicted as a tortoise that serves as the base for the mountain Mandara, which was used as a churning rod during this cosmic event. The churning of the ocean was a collaborative effort between the gods (Devas) and demons (Asuras) to obtain the nectar of immortality, or amrita.
Manda's role as a support during this process highlights his importance in the creation of various divine treasures that emerged from the ocean, including Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth. His presence symbolizes stability and strength, essential for the successful completion of the churning, which is a central theme in Hindu cosmology.
