Malayan Sun Bear
The Malayan Sun Bear is the smallest bear species, native to the tropical forests of Southeast Asia. They are characterized by their short, sleek black fur and a distinctive orange to cream-colored chest patch, which resembles a rising sun. These bears typically weigh between 60 to 150 pounds and stand about 4 to 5 feet tall when on their hind legs.
Sun bears are primarily nocturnal and are excellent climbers, often found foraging for insects, fruits, and honey in trees. Their long tongues, which can reach up to 10 inches, help them extract honey from beehives. Unfortunately, the Malayan Sun Bear faces threats from habitat loss and poaching, leading to a decline in their population.
