Major General John M. Schofield
Major General John M. Schofield was a prominent Union general during the American Civil War. Born on September 29, 1831, in New York, he graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1853. Schofield played key roles in several significant battles, including the Battle of Franklin and the Battle of Nashville, where his leadership contributed to Union victories.
After the Civil War, Schofield continued his military career, serving as the Secretary of War under President Andrew Johnson. He also held various command positions, including overseeing the Department of the Missouri. Schofield retired in 1895 and passed away on March 4, 1906.
