Maiko
A Maiko is a traditional Japanese apprentice geisha, primarily found in Kyoto. They are known for their distinctive appearance, which includes elaborate kimonos, colorful obis, and intricate hairstyles adorned with various hairpieces. Maiko typically begin their training in their teenage years and learn various arts, including music, dance, and conversation, to entertain guests.
The role of a Maiko is to provide cultural entertainment at ochaya (teahouses) and during special events. As they gain experience, they eventually transition into full-fledged Geisha, where they continue to refine their skills and take on more responsibilities in the world of traditional Japanese arts.
