Mahashivaratri
Mahashivaratri is a significant Hindu festival dedicated to Lord Shiva, one of the principal deities in Hinduism. Celebrated annually, it falls on the 14th night of the dark fortnight in the month of Phalguna, which usually corresponds to February or March. Devotees observe fasting, night vigils, and prayers, seeking blessings for spiritual growth and well-being.
The festival symbolizes the overcoming of darkness and ignorance, representing the union of Shiva and Shakti. Temples are adorned, and special rituals are performed, including the chanting of mantras and the offering of milk, honey, and bilva leaves to the Shiva Linga, a representation of Lord Shiva.
