Maharaja of Travancore
The Maharaja of Travancore was the ruler of the princely state of Travancore, located in present-day Kerala, India. This title was held by a series of kings from the Travancore royal family, who governed the region from the 18th century until India's independence in 1947. The Maharajas were known for their progressive policies, promoting education, infrastructure, and social reforms.
The most notable Maharaja was Maharaja Chithira Thirunal Balarama Varma, who ruled from 1931 to 1949. He is remembered for his efforts in modernizing Travancore and for his contributions to the arts and culture, including the establishment of the Sree Chitra Art Gallery.
