Mahadevi Verma was a prominent Indian poet, educator, and freedom fighter, born on March 26, 1907, in Farrukhabad, Uttar Pradesh. She is often referred to as the "Modern Meera" for her deep spiritual and emotional poetry. Verma played a significant role in the Chhayavad literary movement, which emphasized romanticism and nature in Hindi literature.
In addition to her literary contributions, Mahadevi Verma was an advocate for women's education and empowerment. She served as the principal of Prayag Mahila Vidyapeeth and was actively involved in the Indian independence movement. Her work earned her numerous accolades, including the prestigious Jnanpith Award in 1982.
