Madhava of Sangamagrama
Madhava of Sangamagrama was a 14th-century Indian mathematician and astronomer, known for his foundational contributions to calculus and infinite series. He was a key figure in the Kerala School of Astronomy and Mathematics, which advanced mathematical concepts long before they were recognized in Europe. His work laid the groundwork for later developments in mathematics.
Madhava introduced ideas such as the Madhava-Leibniz series for calculating π and explored the convergence of infinite series. His innovative approach to mathematics included the use of trigonometric functions and approximations, influencing future mathematicians like Nilakantha Somayaji and Jyesthadeva.
