MV Estonia
The MV Estonia was a passenger ferry that sank in the Baltic Sea on September 28, 1994. The ship was traveling from Tallinn, Estonia to Stockholm, Sweden when it encountered rough seas. Tragically, the disaster resulted in the loss of 852 lives, making it one of the deadliest maritime accidents in European history.
The sinking was attributed to a failure in the ship's bow visor, which allowed water to flood the vehicle deck. Following the incident, investigations led to changes in safety regulations for ferries operating in the Baltic Sea, aiming to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
