MS Andrea Doria
The MS Andrea Doria was an Italian ocean liner launched in 1951. It was named after a 16th-century Genoese admiral and was known for its luxurious accommodations and advanced design. The ship was part of the Italian Line and primarily operated transatlantic routes between Italy and New York City.
On July 26, 1956, the Andrea Doria collided with the MS Stockholm near Nantucket, Massachusetts, resulting in a tragic maritime disaster. The accident led to the sinking of the Andrea Doria, claiming 46 lives, while many passengers were rescued. The wreck remains a popular site for divers and is often studied for its historical significance.
