Homonym: MIME (Performance)
MIME, or Multipurpose Internet Mail Extensions, is a standard that allows the transmission of different types of data over the internet. Originally developed for email, it enables messages to include text in various character sets, as well as images, audio, and video files. MIME types help email clients and web browsers understand how to process and display the content.
Each MIME type consists of a type and a subtype, separated by a slash. For example, image/jpeg indicates a JPEG image, while text/html refers to HTML text. This system ensures that files are correctly interpreted and rendered by software, enhancing the user experience across different platforms.
