M19
M19, or the M19 Movement, was a Colombian guerrilla group formed in 1970. It emerged in response to perceived electoral fraud in the presidential elections. The group aimed to promote social justice and democracy through armed struggle, gaining notoriety for its high-profile actions, including the 1985 Palace of Justice siege.
The M19 was known for its urban warfare tactics and political activism. In 1990, the group signed a peace agreement with the Colombian government, transitioning into a political party called the Democratic Alliance. This marked a significant shift in Colombia's conflict dynamics, as former guerrillas sought to engage in politics rather than armed conflict.
