M-19
M-19 was a Colombian guerrilla group founded in 1970, named after the date of the presidential elections that year, which they believed were fraudulent. The group aimed to promote social justice and political change through armed struggle, gaining notoriety for its bold actions, including the 1985 takeover of the Palace of Justice in Bogotá.
The group officially demobilized in 1990, transitioning into a political party called Alianza Democrática M-19. This shift marked a significant moment in Colombia's history, as it represented an effort to integrate former combatants into the political process and seek peaceful solutions to the country's longstanding conflicts.
