Métis National Council
The Métis National Council (MNC) is a political organization that represents the Métis Nation in Canada. Established in 1983, it advocates for the rights and interests of Métis people, who are descendants of Indigenous peoples and European settlers. The MNC works to promote Métis culture, language, and heritage while engaging with federal and provincial governments on issues affecting Métis communities.
The MNC is composed of several governing bodies, including the Métis provincial governments and the Métis Nation of Ontario, Métis Nation of Alberta, and others. It plays a crucial role in negotiating land claims, self-government agreements, and ensuring that Métis voices are heard in policy discussions.
