Lymphocytic Choriomeningitis
Lymphocytic Choriomeningitis (LCMV) is a viral infection caused by the lymphocytic choriomeningitis virus, which primarily affects the central nervous system. It is typically transmitted through contact with infected rodents, particularly house mice, or their droppings, urine, and saliva. Humans can also become infected through bites or exposure to contaminated materials.
Symptoms of LCMV can range from mild flu-like signs to more severe neurological issues, such as meningitis or encephalitis. Diagnosis is usually confirmed through blood tests or analysis of cerebrospinal fluid. Most individuals recover without treatment, but severe cases may require hospitalization.
