Lymantriidae
Lymantriidae, commonly known as tussock moths, is a family of moths found worldwide. They are characterized by their hairy caterpillars, which often have distinctive tufts or "tussocks" of hair. These caterpillars are known for their feeding habits, as they can defoliate trees and shrubs, sometimes causing significant damage to forests.
Adult tussock moths typically have stout bodies and broad wings. Many species exhibit sexual dimorphism, with males and females differing in size and coloration. The family includes both pest species and those that play important roles in their ecosystems, such as serving as food for birds and other predators.
