Lycian Language
The Lycian language is an ancient Anatolian language that was spoken in the region of Lycia, located in what is now southwestern Turkey. It is part of the Luwian branch of the Indo-European language family and is primarily known from inscriptions and coins dating back to the 5th and 4th centuries BCE.
Lycian is written in a unique script that resembles the Greek alphabet but has distinct characters. The language has been partially deciphered, allowing scholars to understand its grammar and vocabulary, although many inscriptions remain untranslated. It provides valuable insights into the culture and history of the Lycian people.
