Lycian Civilization
The Lycian Civilization was an ancient society located in what is now southwestern Turkey. Flourishing from the 15th century BCE to the 4th century BCE, the Lycians were known for their unique language, which is part of the Luwian group, and their distinctive rock-cut tombs. They developed a confederation of city-states, each with its own government, and were skilled in trade and maritime activities.
The Lycians were influenced by various cultures, including the Hittites, Greeks, and Persians. They are also recognized for their contributions to architecture, particularly the construction of the Lycian League, which promoted cooperation among the cities. Their rich mythology and art reflect a blend of local traditions and external influences.
