Lucius Junius Gallio Annaeanus
Lucius Junius Gallio Annaeanus was a Roman official and the proconsul of Achaea during the reign of Emperor Nero. He is best known for his role in the trial of the Apostle Paul, as recorded in the New Testament book of Acts. Gallio dismissed the charges against Paul, stating that they were matters of Jewish law rather than Roman law.
Gallio was born into a prominent family, with his brother being the famous philosopher Seneca. His tenure as proconsul is often noted for its relative peace and stability in the region. Gallio's decision in Paul's case is seen as significant in the early history of Christianity.
