Loyalist Refugees
Loyalist Refugees were individuals who remained loyal to the British Crown during the American Revolutionary War (1775-1783). After the war, many faced persecution and loss of property in the newly formed United States. To escape these hardships, they fled to British territories, including Canada and the Caribbean.
These refugees included a diverse group of people, such as British loyalists, Indigenous allies, and enslaved individuals who had fought for the British. The influx of Loyalist Refugees significantly influenced the development of Canada, leading to the establishment of new communities and the introduction of British customs and governance.
