Louis Leroy
Louis Leroy was a French painter and art critic, best known for coining the term "Impressionism." He used this term in a satirical review of Claude Monet's painting titled Impression, Sunrise in 1874. Leroy's critique highlighted the loose brushwork and emphasis on light that characterized the new style, which later became a significant movement in the art world.
In addition to his role as a critic, Leroy was also an active participant in the Salon des Refusés, an exhibition that showcased works rejected by the traditional Paris Salon. His contributions helped to promote the Impressionist movement, which included artists like Edgar Degas and Pierre-Auguste Renoir.
