Lost Pines
Lost Pines is a unique forested area located in central Texas, primarily within Bastrop State Park. It is named for its distinctive stands of loblolly pine trees, which are not typically found in the surrounding Blackland Prairie region. The area is known for its diverse wildlife and recreational opportunities, including hiking, camping, and birdwatching.
The Lost Pines ecosystem is a remnant of a once more extensive forest that thrived during cooler, wetter climatic periods. Today, it serves as an important habitat for various species, including the endangered Houston toad. Conservation efforts are ongoing to protect this unique environment from threats such as wildfires and invasive species.
