Lord Chelmsford
Lord Chelmsford, born in 1840, was a British Army officer and colonial administrator. He is best known for his role as the Commander-in-Chief during the Anglo-Zulu War of 1879, where he led British forces against the Zulu Kingdom in South Africa. His leadership was marked by both significant victories and notable defeats, including the Battle of Isandlwana.
After the war, Chelmsford served as the Governor of Natal and later as the Governor of New Zealand. He was promoted to the rank of full general and was involved in various military and administrative roles throughout his career until his retirement in 1902.
