Longliners
Longliners are fishing vessels that use long lines with baited hooks to catch fish. These lines can stretch for miles and are designed to target various species, including tuna, swordfish, and cod. Longlining is an efficient method for catching large quantities of fish, but it can also lead to bycatch, which includes unintended species that are caught and often discarded.
The longlining technique involves setting the line in the water for several hours or even overnight. Fishermen then return to retrieve the line, collecting the fish that have been caught. This method is commonly used in both commercial and recreational fishing, contributing significantly to the global seafood supply.
