Locomotive No. 1
Locomotive No. 1 is a historic steam locomotive built in 1825. It was the first locomotive to operate on the Stockton and Darlington Railway, the world's first public railway to use steam locomotives. Designed by engineer George Stephenson, it played a crucial role in the development of rail transport.
The locomotive features a vertical boiler and a single driving axle, allowing it to pull coal and passengers along the railway. Although it was not very powerful, Locomotive No. 1 demonstrated the potential of steam engines, paving the way for future advancements in railway technology.
