Ljudevit Gaj
Ljudevit Gaj was a prominent Croatian linguist, politician, and writer born on July 6, 1809. He is best known for his role in the Croatian National Revival, a movement aimed at promoting Croatian language and culture. Gaj developed the modern Croatian alphabet, which is based on the Latin script, and he published the first Croatian grammar book.
In addition to his linguistic contributions, Gaj was an influential figure in Croatian literature and journalism. He founded the first Croatian newspaper, Novine Horvatske, in 1846, which played a crucial role in spreading national awareness. Gaj's efforts significantly shaped the Croatian identity and language.
