Livonian Germans
The Livonian Germans were a group of German-speaking settlers who established themselves in the region of Livonia, which is now part of modern-day Latvia and Estonia. They arrived during the 12th and 13th centuries, primarily as part of the Teutonic Order's expansion. Over time, they became an influential social and economic class in the area, contributing to agriculture, trade, and local governance.
By the 19th century, the Livonian German community began to decline due to various factors, including the rise of nationalism and changes in political power. Many Livonian Germans emigrated to other countries, particularly to Germany and the United States, leading to a significant reduction in their population and cultural presence in the Baltic region.
