Lion of Lucerne
The Lion of Lucerne is a famous sculpture located in Lucerne, Switzerland. Carved into a sandstone rock face, it was created by the Danish sculptor Bertel Thorvaldsen in 1821. The monument commemorates the Swiss Guards who were killed during the French Revolution while defending King Louis XVI.
The lion, depicted in a dying posture, symbolizes bravery and sacrifice. It measures about 10 meters long and 6 meters high, making it an impressive sight for visitors.
