Lincosamide
Lincosamide is a class of antibiotics used to treat various bacterial infections. It works by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis, effectively stopping the growth of bacteria. Commonly prescribed lincosamides include clindamycin and lincomycin, which are effective against certain gram-positive bacteria and anaerobic infections.
Lincosamides are often used in cases where patients are allergic to penicillin or when other antibiotics are ineffective. They can be administered orally or intravenously, depending on the severity of the infection. However, they may cause side effects such as gastrointestinal disturbances and should be used with caution in patients with a history of colitis.
