Lightning Bugs
Lightning bugs, also known as fireflies, are small insects belonging to the family Lampyridae. They are best known for their ability to produce light through a chemical reaction in their bodies, a process called bioluminescence. This light is often used by males to attract females during mating season, creating a beautiful display in warm, humid evenings.
These insects are typically found in grassy or wooded areas, especially near water sources. Lightning bugs are most active during the summer months and play a role in the ecosystem by helping to control pest populations. Their unique glow has made them a favorite subject in folklore and nature studies.
