Lewisia rediviva
Lewisia rediviva, commonly known as bitterroot, is a perennial flowering plant native to the western United States, particularly in the Rocky Mountains. It features fleshy, succulent leaves that form a rosette at the base and produces delicate pink to white flowers in the spring. The plant thrives in rocky, well-drained soils and is often found in alpine and subalpine habitats.
Bitterroot has significant cultural importance, especially among Native American tribes, who have used it for food and medicinal purposes. The plant's roots are edible and can be cooked or dried for later use. Lewisia rediviva is also the state flower of Montana.
