Lewis Powell
Lewis Powell was a Confederate soldier and a key figure in the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln. Born in 1844 in Alabama, he became involved in the Civil War and later joined a group of conspirators who aimed to destabilize the Union government.
On April 14, 1865, Powell attempted to assassinate Secretary of State William H. Seward as part of a larger plot orchestrated by John Wilkes Booth. After the assassination of Lincoln, Powell was captured, tried, and executed for his role in the conspiracy, highlighting the turbulent aftermath of the Civil War.
