Levels of Automation
Levels of Automation (LoA) refer to the degree to which a system can operate independently from human intervention. These levels range from fully manual operations, where humans control every aspect, to fully automated systems that require no human input. The classification helps in understanding how much control and responsibility is shifted from humans to machines.
Typically, LoA is categorized into several stages, often from 0 to 5. At Level 0, humans are entirely in control, while Level 5 represents full automation, where systems like self-driving cars can navigate without any human assistance. Understanding these levels is crucial for designing and implementing automated systems effectively.
