Legacy Survey of Space and Time
The Legacy Survey of Space and Time (LSST) is a large astronomical survey project designed to map the night sky in unprecedented detail. Utilizing the Vera C. Rubin Observatory, LSST will capture images of the entire visible sky every few nights, allowing scientists to study various celestial phenomena, including supernovae, asteroids, and the structure of the Milky Way galaxy.
LSST aims to collect data over a ten-year period, producing a vast archive of images and measurements. This information will help researchers address fundamental questions about the universe, such as the nature of dark matter and dark energy, and the formation of galaxies.
