Left Atrium
The left atrium is one of the four chambers of the heart, located at the top left side. It receives oxygen-rich blood from the lungs through the pulmonary veins. This chamber plays a crucial role in the heart's function by collecting blood before it is pumped into the left ventricle.
Once the left atrium fills with blood, it contracts to push the blood into the left ventricle, which then pumps it out to the rest of the body through the aorta. The proper functioning of the left atrium is essential for maintaining effective circulation and overall cardiovascular health.
