Lazarus Effect
The Lazarus Effect refers to a phenomenon where a person or organism appears to return to life after being declared dead. This term is derived from the biblical story of Lazarus of Bethany, who was raised from the dead by Jesus. In modern contexts, the Lazarus Effect can also describe instances in medicine where patients show signs of life after being resuscitated, often after a period of clinical death.
In scientific research, the Lazarus Effect can be observed in certain species that can survive extreme conditions, such as tardigrades or brine shrimp. These organisms can enter a state of cryptobiosis, allowing them to withstand desiccation and other life-threatening situations, effectively "coming back to life" when conditions improve.
