tardigrades
Tardigrades, also known as water bears, are tiny, water-dwelling creatures that measure about 0.5 millimeters in length. They are known for their resilience and can survive extreme conditions, including high radiation, extreme temperatures, and even the vacuum of space. Tardigrades have eight legs and a segmented body, which allows them to move in a unique, bear-like manner.
These microscopic animals can enter a state called cryptobiosis, where they lose almost all their water content and curl up into a ball. In this state, they can endure harsh environments for years without food or water. Tardigrades are found in diverse habitats, from deep oceans to the highest mountains, showcasing their adaptability.
