Laurent Gbagbo
Laurent Gbagbo is a former politician from Ivory Coast, who served as the country's president from 2000 until 2011. He was a key figure during the Ivorian Civil War and was known for his opposition to foreign influence in Ivory Coast. Gbagbo's presidency was marked by political turmoil and conflict, leading to his eventual arrest in 2011.
In 2012, Gbagbo was transferred to the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague, where he faced charges of crimes against humanity related to the post-election violence in 2010-2011. After a lengthy trial, he was acquitted in 2019, allowing him to return to Ivory Coast in 2021.
