Latvian Automobile History
Latvian automobile history began in the early 20th century, with the first cars appearing in the country around 1903. The Riga Automobile Factory, established in 1913, was one of the first manufacturers, producing vehicles for both local use and export. During the interwar period, Latvia saw a rise in automobile ownership and the establishment of various small-scale manufacturers.
After World War II, Latvia became part of the Soviet Union, leading to the production of vehicles like the Riga and Vairogs. The automotive industry faced challenges during the transition to independence in the early 1990s, but today, Latvia is home to several automotive companies and a growing interest in electric vehicles.
