Lateral Compartment
The lateral compartment is a specific area located on the outer side of the lower leg. It contains important muscles, including the fibularis longus and fibularis brevis, which are responsible for foot movement and stability. These muscles help in actions like eversion, where the foot turns outward, and assist in maintaining balance during activities such as walking and running.
In addition to muscles, the lateral compartment houses nerves and blood vessels that supply the area. The superficial fibular nerve is particularly significant, as it provides sensation to parts of the foot and contributes to motor function in the lateral compartment.
